Boys Roundup: Storm, Wilson, Waynesboro Take Tuesday wins

Wilson, 82 Fort Defiance 62
FISHERSVILLE
– Wilson Memorial hit Fort Defiance with a 47-point outburst in the first half and Hornets went on to take an 82-62 victory Tuesday in boys hoops action.

Wilson led 19-16 after one quarter, but the Hornets outscored the Indians 28-12 in the second quarter to lead 47-28 at the half. Chase Snyder hit a pair of threes and scored nine points in the second quarter and Wilson teammate Isaiah Scott added six as the Hornets took control.

Snyder finished with a team-high 22 points for Wilson and Eli Irving added 13.

Gio Armendariz Cruz paced Fort with 22 points and Bradley Hebb scored 11.

Staunton 66, Riverheads 47
GREENVILLE
– The Staunton Storm pulled away in the fourth quarter Tuesday night to defeat Riverheads 68-47 in boys hoops action. The Storm remained undefeated in district play.

The Gladiators led by a point, 17-16, after one quarter, but Staunton grabbed the lead in the second quarter and took a 30-25 advantage at the half.

Riverheads was still within striking distance after three quarters, trailing by nine, 46-37, but Staunton pulled away in the final eight minutes, outscoring Riverheads 20-10 in the fourth quarter to seal the 66-47 victory.

Ky’Ree Scott paced the Storm with 16 points while teammates Joaqin Bell and Leon Woodard each finished with 11.

Jackson Brammer led the Gladiators with 13 points and Henley Dunlap scored 11.

Waynesboro 63, Buffalo Gap 55
WAYNESBORO
– Waynesboro led by as much as 22 points in the third quarter Tuesday night, but the Little Giants had to hold off a frantic late rally by Buffalo Gap to secure a 63-55 district win in boys hoops action.

Gap got as close as two points in the final quarter at 57-55. With just more than a minute to play, the Bison missed a potential game-tying 3-pointer, and the Little Giants hit enough free throws down the stretch to clinch the win. Waynesboro made 6-of-9 foul shots in the fourth quarter.

Lamari Nowell paced the Little Giants with 17 points. Deonta Brown made four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points and Haden Morris added 12 for the Little Giants. Nowell and Brown are both freshmen.

Gap placed three players in double figures, led by Isaac Goff’s 17 points. Aiden Astarb scored 15 and Dalton Coffey added 13 for the Bison.
