STAUNTON - In a match that had fans on the edge of their seats, the Staunton Storm volleyball team pulled off a dramatic comeback victory over the Buffalo Gap Bison, winning in five sets after trailing 2-1.
The home crowd at Staunton High School witnessed a rollercoaster of momentum swings and clutch performances as the Storm battled back from adversity to secure the win in their conference opener.
After dropping the second and third sets, Staunton regrouped and surged in the final two frames, showcasing resilience and teamwork. When asked about what this win said about the Storm’s resilience, Staunton head coach Jody Lohr stated, “we don't have quitters, the girls didn't get down on themselves. In huddles we remained positive.”

Brooke Davenport led the Storm at the net with 12 kills and three blocks. Senior libero Eden Levin anchored the defense with 14 digs. Senior setter Kaylan Herron orchestrated the offense with precision, tallying 11 assists, while contributing six digs. Kennedy Bryant added five kills for the Storm.
Buffalo Gap, led by Bailey Tribble, looked poised to take control after the third set, but Staunton’s energy and crowd support helped shift the tide.
Tribble had a huge night, leading the Bison with 18 kills and 26 digs. Avery Wheeler dished out a team-high 29 assists and added eight digs. Brailyn Green added 15 digs and Lindsay Lyle finished with six kills. Tribble, Green and Lyle each served two aces.
With this win, Staunton improves to 2-1 on the season and builds momentum heading into Thursday’s matchup at undefeated Wilson. Buffalo Gap returns to the court on Monday when the Bison will host Bath County in non-district play.
