The ShenValley Seven football poll is conducted and published in the Daily News Record each week during the high school football season under the direction of DNR sports editor Cody Elliott.
The ShenValley Seven is the only poll in the area that considers the City-County teams in Staunton, Waynesboro and Augusta County.
The teams that are considered each week include Broadway, East Rockingham, Harrisonburg, Rocktown, Spotswood and Turner Ashby out of the Valley District; Shenandoah District members Riverheads, Buffalo Gap, Wilson, Fort Defiance, Stuarts Draft, Waynesboro and Rockbridge; and Bull Run teams Central Woodstock, Clarke County, Luray, Page County, Stonewall Jackson and Strasburg.
Two City-County teams cracked the Top Seven in the first poll of the season.
This week’s ShenValley Seven
1. Turner Ashby 1-0 (7 first-place votes)
2. Strasburg 1-0 (6 first-place votes)
3. Broadway 1-0 (2 first-place votes)
4. Riverheads 1-0
5. Wilson Memorial 0-0
6. Central Woodstock 0-0
7. Spotswood 1-0
Others receiving votes: Staunton, East Rockingham, Rocktown, Stuarts Draft.
There could be some movement in the poll next week as this Friday night features two showdowns featuring ShenValley Seven teams. Huge matchup in Strasburg as the #2 Rams host the No. 3 Broadway Gobblers. And in Fishersville, the No 5 Wilson Memorial Hornets tee it up for the first time this season when they host No. 7 Spotswood.
