Yew Named Head Football Coach at Fort Defiance

FORT DEFIANCE – Fort Defiance High School has announced the hiring of Mike Yew as the school’s new head football coach

Yew brings 28 years of coaching experience to Fort, including a recent 17-year stint at Central Woodstock.

While at Central, Yew built the Falcons program into a perennial district and regional contender. His teams made the playoffs 11 times. From 2018-2023, his teams won two regional titles and played for the state championship in 2022 where the Falcons lost to Graham, 34-7.

Yew finished with a 121-71 record while at Central. 

Prior to taking the head coaching position at Central, Yew was the head coach at Massanutten Military Academy for three years.

Coach Yew attended Concord and James Madison University, earning his B.S. and teaching licensure. He is currently pursuing a degree in Education and Administration Leadership.
