FISHERSVILLE – Wilson made it two wins in two nights by sweeping Spotswood 25-16, 25-15, 25-19 in non-district volleyball action.
The victory was the second straight over a Region 3C foe to start the season. Once the Hornets grabbed a lead, they never let the Trailblazers back in the set.
“I’m proud of the way the girls played. They picked up where they left off last night and continued to build,” said Wilson head coach Lauren Kondor. “They didn’t let up at any point tonight.”
A kill by Maggie Parrott put Wilson up 19-13 in the opening set. After two straight points by the Blazers, an ace by Maddie Lawhorn and a kill by Estee Irving off a Spotswood block gave Wilson a 22-16 lead. Irving closed out the first set with back-to-back aces.
The second set was tied at 9-9 after a kill by Spotswood’s Teckla Jenkins but then the Hornets took command.
Two kills each Irving and A.J. Hedrick, plus a kill from the middle by Parrott pushed the Hornets to a 17-11 lead and they coasted in with a 25-15 lead.
Wilson gained control early in the third set, racing out to a 16-6 lead. Harper Tibbs and Bre Kindig each served a pair of aces while Hedrick and Parrott pounded kills during the Hornets early run. Spotswood could get no closer than five points the rest of the way as Fort completed the sweep, 25-19.
Irving led the winners with eight kills and Parrott added five. Miya Chandler led the team with seven digs while Kindig added six digs and four service aces. Natalee Chandler finished with a team-high 15 assists.
The Hornets are off until next Tuesday when they open Shenandoah District play at home with a big early-season match with Rockbridge.
