Wilson Middle School finished eighth in both the boys’ and girls’ races on Saturday at the State Middle School Championships held at Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville.
In the girls’ race, Wilson’s placed eighth out of 24 middle school programs. Stewart Middle was 13th with Kate Collins 16th and Shelburne 21st.
Three local girls cracked the Top 100 in a race featuring 374 runners from middle schools and club programs across the state. Wilson’s Reva Franklin was the top local finisher, placing 31st overall. Teammate Riley Thacker finished 90th, just ahead of Kate Collins’ Annie Harris in 92nd place.
Just missing the Top 100 were Wilson’s Hannah Armstrong at No. 102, one spot ahead of Kate Collins’ Kristin Thrower.
Stewart Middle placed all five of its scorers inside the Top 150, paced by Iyla Shiflett who finished No.118 overall. Kora Braun was No. 123 followed by Elina Chornoblavska (124), Avery Martin (132) and Hailee Lang (143). Also competing for Stewart were Annabelle Kelly (177), Joanna Martinez (194), Stella Swats (207) and Elizabeth Yoder (271)
Following Franklin, Thacker and Armstrong for Wilson were Kacey Thurston (173), Tempy Woodell (176) and Lucy Robinson (178). Next in line for Wilson were Allie Owens (198), Charlotte Genda (213), Harper Klimek (220), Leah Sarmadi (328), Mariana McWhorter (344), Rosie Eccles (347) and Caroline Swanson (359).
Completing the scoring for Kate Collins following Harris and Thrower were Breigh Estes (134), Emma Matherly (163) and Sophia Moore (212). Also running for KC were Norah Coyner (219) and Jazlyn Hartzler (339)
Emmie Hickin paced Shelburne, finishing at No. 155. Eleanor Cundy (167) and Bela Tuttle (181) cracked the Top 200. Also competing for Shelburne were Ahriya Hall (292), Allyn Brown (306), Aubri Santi (315), Hollyn Brown (319) and Nora Sheehy (320).
Charleigh Kennedy represented Buffalo Gap Middle and placed No. 157. Also competing for Gap were Eloise Burris (274) and Gracen Sedr (321)
Wilson’s boys placed eighth out of 37 teams. Stewart Middle was 17th with Kate Collins 32nd and Shelburne 33rd.
A total of 489 runners finished the boys’ race.
Wilson’s Jack Hartley led the local runners with a time of 14:29.2 to finish 43rd overall. Also placing in the Top 100 were Wilson teammates Elijah Bartley (54) and Hudson Peters (77 along with Stewart’s Ben Layne (96)
Completing the scoring for Wilson were Ryan Loker (145) and Maxwell Spencer (156). Also competing for Wilson were Daniel Shiekh (278), Keali’I Garcia (304), Austin Hostetter (351), Laylon Varner (354), Zack Harris (376), Akshaj Pandya (469) and David Hom (472).
Rounding out Stewart’s scoring behind Layne were Digory Towles (111), Layne Cline (120), Garrett Packer (211) and Carson Hall (259). Hall edged teammate Adam Zetwick (260) by less than one-half second. Weston Via (293), Matthew Suffecool (308) and Mason Allman (331) also competed for Stewart.
Scoring for Kate Collins were Liam Munro (161), Keenan Badgett (217), Beau Jones (261), Kyer Jackson (273) and Ben Roller (292). Miles Seipel (335) and Calvin Gibson also ran for KC.
Ellis Shreckhise led the Shelburne scoring group, finishing at No. 131. Rounding out the scoring were Fritz Crosier (257), Camden Beach (289), Reid Thompson (314) and Felix Blanchard (344). Porter Neckowitz (350), Nick Salisbury (398), Bo Smith (447) and Brian Leonard (452) also ran for Shelburne.
Competing for Buffalo Gap Middler were Carson Durham (154), Trevor Knicely (195), Jaxon Miller (369) and Finley Buchholtz (465).
