CROZET – Western Albemarle scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning Thursday to hand Wilson a heartbreaking 8-7 defeat in the Region 3C softball tournament.
Western jumped out to a 4-0 lead but the Hornets rallied to tie the score with four runs in the top of the third inning. Karter Fortune singled and Caylee Stevens followed with a double to put two runners on base. After Katelyn Harman was hit by a pitch, Fortune swiped home for Wilson’s first run. Glass plated two runs with a double and Tibbs tied the game at 4-4 with a run-scoring single.
Wilson took the lead with three runs top of the fifth. Natalee Chandler and Glass opened the inning with singles. Glass scored on Tibbs’ double to give the Hornets the lead. Hailey McLain singled in a run and Tibbs stole home, giving Fort a 7-4 lead.
Myleigh Glass led the Hornets with a 3-for-3 day at the plate and two RBIs. Harper Tibbs was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
