STAUNTON - For the opening game of the season, the Staunton Storm volleyball team delivered a commanding performance Tuesday night, sweeping the Rocktown Raptors in three straight sets 25-16, 25-18, and 25-18.
Staunton came out firing in the first set, overwhelming Rocktown with aggressive serves and sharp net play. A late eight-point lead forced a Rocktown timeout, but the Storm remained relentless. With the crowd on their feet, Saraiah Lassiter delivered a kill to close out the first set.
The second set saw Rocktown regroup and push back with more intensity, but Staunton maintained control through disciplined play and smart ball movement. The Storm’s front line continued to dominate, with consistent pressure at the net and quick transitions. As the set neared its end, Brook-Lyn Kittrell rose to the occasion, delivering a powerful kill that punctuated Staunton’s 25–18 win and kept their momentum rolling into the third.
Staunton’s ability to maintain momentum and adapt to Rocktown’s late-match adjustments proved crucial in closing out the third set.
The Storm’s offense was orchestrated by Kaylan Herron who tallied 15 assists, consistently feeding her hitters with precision. She also added two aces and eight digs. The Storm finished with 24 kills and 12 aces. Olivia Reed had eight kills and Lassiter added four kills. Kennedy Bryant contributed three kills and three blocks while Eden Levin added 15 digs.
This non-district victory jump starts Staunton’s confidence as the Storm started their season with strong performances and team chemistry. Staunton first-year head coach Jody Lohr said, “we’re continuing the culture that was already built by the former coach with the seniors leading the way. This is a great start to our season.”
