Shenandoah District Cross Country Preview

Waynesboro High School will host the Shenandoah District Cross Country Championship Meet on Wednesday at Ridgeview Park.

Alleghany’s Kiera Lowman will be the big favorite to win the girls’ race. Lowman’s top time of 17:45.50 is almost two minutes better than Wilson’s Thea Franklin who has the second-fastest clocking at 19:33.80.

Alleghany’s Faith Barron should be Franklin’s biggest challenger for second. Barron’s best time is 19:39.30.

In the team race, Alleghany appears to be the favorite with three runners in the Top 5 and four in the Top 15. Fort Defiance looks to offer the biggest challenge for the Cougars as the Indians also have four runners in the Top 15.

The boys’ team standings should be dominated by Rockbridge. The Wildcats have their top five runners ranked among the Top 10 times. If one, or even two, have an off day, it shouldn’t be a problem for the Cats as their sixth and seventh runners rank inside the Top 15.

The Waynesboro duo of Grayson Norris and Miles Jolin have run at the front of the pack all fall. Norris has the fastest 5K time in the district at 16:04.47. The individual title could be decided among the Little Giants top pair and Rockbridge’s top two runners – Tyler Ludtke and Leif Guse.
