Notebook Documents Academic Excellence

 A total of 16 student-athletes recently received Academic All-Conference recognition. The complete listing can be found below. Two local athletes – Mary Baldwin softball player McKenzie Tillman (Stuarts Draft) and Southern Virginia volleyball player Gracie Fulton (Riverheads) were named to the USA South All-Academic Team with Distinction. To receive the honor, Tillman and Fulton both carried at least a 3.90 GPA.

Bridgewater’s Summer Wallace (Riverheads) was named to the CSC All-District T&F team. To be eligible the student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 GPA and rank among the Top 50 regionally in Track & Field. Wallace ranked in the region’s Top 50 in three different events.

Bridgewater’s Abby Mikolay (Stuarts Draft) and Wallace were selected to the VaSID All-State Outdoor T&F team. Mikolay was a first-team all-state selection in the throws while Wallace was a second-team pick in the jumps.

Bridgewater’s Mike Smith (Waynesboro) and CNU’s Latrell Fomby (Stuarts Draft) were both first-team selections on the VaSID All-State T&F team in the throws. 

Bridgewater’s Emma Staton (Riverheads) was named to the All-ODAC Sportsmanship team representing the women’s tennis program.

CNU’s Kate Alger (Buffalo Gap) was named to the VaSID All-State softball second team.
