Buffalo Gap 2, Rockbridge 1 (8 innings)

BUFFALO GAP – For the second time this season, Buffalo Gap and Rockbridge needed extra innings to decide the outcome and for the second time, the Bison came out on top.

McKenzie Woods drove in the winning run with a bunt single in the bottom of the eighth, giving Gap a 2-1 win.

Elissa Caricofe led off the eighth with a single and Rachel Showalter followed with a double to left. Woods’ then put down the bunt and pinch-runner Emarie Smiley scored from third to win it, 2-1.

Rockbridge took the lead in the third on a single by Sadie Moore but Gap pulled even in the fifth on a solo homer by Charleigh Phillips.

Gap’s Bailey Tribble outdueled Moore in the circle to get the win. Tribble allowed one run on four hits. She struck out 11 and walked six. Moore allowed 11 hits. The Cats’ pitcher struck out nine and did not walk a batter.

Alleghany 5, Stuarts Draft 4 (9 innings)

STUARTS DRAFT – Alleghany ended Stuarts Draft’s 10-game winning streak with a 5-4 extra-inning victory Thursday.

Alleghany took the lead In the top of the ninth when Kaylee Nicely led off the frame with a solo homer. Brianna Terrell followed with a triple, and she scored on a double by Brooklyn Taylor, giving the visitors a 5-3 lead.

With one out in the bottom of the ninth, Sierra Whetsel doubles and scored on a single by MaryKate Lunsford with Lunsford moving into scoring position at second on the throw. Alleghany pitcher Emma Skidmore retired the next two batters on infield pop-ups to end the game.

Draft had six hits in the game, two each by Lunsford and Skyanne Weber. Weber had two RBIs for the Cougars.

Alleghany had 14 hits, three each by Skidmore and Maddy Lowry.

Riverheads 3, Stonewall Jackson 1

MOUNT JACKSON – Riverheads snapped a 1-1 tie with two runs in the top of the seventh inning Thursday to edge Stonewall Jackson 3-1 in non-district action.

Emmy Fitzgerald and Kallie Poole led off the seventh with singles. Addison Shifflett moved the runners up with a sac bunt and Payton Patterson drove both runners home with a double, giving Riverheads a 3-1 lead.

Fitzgerald went the distance in the circle, allowing one unearned run on just three hits. She struck out 12 and walked one.
