BRIDGEWATER – Fort Defiance opened its volleyball season Thursday night with an impressive 25-15, 25-20, 30-28 victory over Turner Ashby.
Maecy Frizzelle led the Indians with 15 kills and Caroline Hanger added seven. Alexis Miller passed out 15 assists. The Indians had nine service aces, led by Frizzelle with three. Defensively, Norah Anderson recorded 14 digs while Frizzelle added 10. Savannah Crookshanks contributed one solo block and two block assists.
LOVINGSTON – Buffalo Gap defeated Nelson County in three sets Thursday evening 25-18, 25-20, 25-15.
Bailey Tribble sparked the Bison with 14 kills, 13 digs and five aces. Avery Wheeler.led the team with 25 assists and contributed 11 digs. Rachel Baber posted seven kills and two aces while teammate Sadie Shifflett added six kills and two aces. Brailyn Green tied Tribble for most digs with 13.
The Gap junior varsity needed three sets to defeat the Governors 19-25, 25-11, 17-15.
