STRASBURG – Stuarts Draft’s football season came to an end on Friday night.
The third-seeded Cougars struggled from the start in a 54-7 loss to the top-seeded Rams in the Region 2B final. It is Strasburg’s second straight Region 2B title. It’s the first time the Rams have won back-to-back regional titles since 1988.
Strasburg dominated the game from the start. Stuarts Draft quarterback Derrick Moore was intercepted by Strasburg’s Pablo Mora Hernandez, who returned it to the Stuarts Draft 44.
The Rams needed only one play to score as junior running back Quincy Williams scored on a 44-yard run to give Strasburg a 7-0 lead.
Trailing 14-0, the Cougars put together one of their best drives of the game. They moved the ball, mostly through the air, to the Strasburg 16. However, Strasburg’s Brady Knight intercepted a pass from Moore and returned it to the Strasburg 21.
On the very next play, Williams struck again – this time with a 79-yard touchdown run for a 21-0 lead with 3:08 left in the opening quarter.
The Rams intercepted three Stuarts Draft passes in the first quarter and led 28-0. The Rams led 42-0 at the half and ran for 412 yards in the opening half. They finished with 506 total yards. Williams finished with 200 rushing yards on five carries and three scores as the Rams dominated on both sides of the line of scrimmage.
The Cougars (9-4) scored on the first play of the fourth quarter on a 62-yard touchdown run by Moore. The senior finished with 137 passing yards on 12-for-19 passing. He also ran for 80 yards on nine carries. The Cougars finished with 332 total yards of offense but struggled to finish off drives. Stuarts Draft junior running back Baylor Graber suffered an injury early in the game and did not return.
