Buffalo Gap Preseason Football Snapshot

Head coach: Brad Wygant, 7th season (31-35 .463)

2024 season: 6-7 overall, 1-5 Shenandoah District

2024 postseason: lost in Region 1B championship to Altavista, 32-20

Starters returning: 7 offense, 8 defense

Key players to watch: Jude Louk (QB-DB), Isaac Goff (RB), Shane Huffer (OL), Cooper Reed (RB-DB), Carson Townsend (OL), Bradley Shiplett (WR)

2025 Overview: “A lot of underclassmen saw significant playing time last season,” Wygant said. “At times we had more sophomores on the field than the other classes combined. This is a tight knit group. We had a good offseason with high participation. We asked some guys to change positions and the reaction has been positive. We hope some guys are ready to step up because we do have a few big shoes to fill. The players have big expectations not only for themselves but for the team. We won't be sneaking up on anybody this season.”

Thoughts on district expansion of Alleghany, Rockbridge County: “It will be nice to have new opponents even if they are bigger schools,” Wygant said. “We will see some good athletes and new offenses. I would like to have more nondistrict games, but that isn't happening now. It should be interesting. At least we are no longer the smallest school on the field this fall (Bath County) during the regular season.” (The Bison were the only Class 1 team in the state the last two years not to play a fellow Class 1 school during the regular season.)
