Wilson Memorial High School will host the Augusta County Invitational cross country meet Saturday at the Wilson Workforce and Rehabilitation Center course.
All five Augusta County schools are competing along with Waynesboro, Staunton and Grace Christian School.
Other public schools expected to run include East Rockingham, Luray, Nelson County, Page County, Patrick Henry (Roanoke) and Turner Ashby. Private schools include Eastern Mennonite School, Fishburne Military, Mt. Carmel Christian, Redeemer Classical, Regents School and Virginia Academy.
Following are 12 local runners to watch in the Girls’ High School 5K.
1. Georgia Babish, Grace Christian – Expect Babish to be near the front of the pack. The Grace senior had the fourth fastest time at the Valley Cup on the Wilson course and this past weekend won the Black Division at the Knights Crossing meet in Salem with a time of 19:52.7.
2. Thea Franklin, Wilson – Franklin posted the seventh-fastest time at the Valley Cup and finished seventh (20:47.6) in the Black Division at Knights Crossing.
3. Camila Cruz, Fort Defiance – Cruz posted a Top 10 finish at the Valley Cup and placed 12th at Knights Crossing )21:24.7).
4. Elliott Hall, Waynesboro – Hall ran inside the Top 20 at the Valley Cup and Knights Crossing (22:04.2).
5. Verity Jordan, Riverheads – Jordan made her season debut with a 19th place finish at Knights Crossing (22:06).
6. Molly O’Brien, Fort Defiance – O’Brien placed 22nd at Knights Crossing (22:13.5) and 27th at the Valley Cup.
7. Alexis Austin, Waynesboro – Austin finished one spot behind Fort’s O’Brien at Knights Crossing (22:15.3) and placed 21st in the Valley Cup.
8. Henley Ann Coffman, Fort Defiance – Coffman finished 27th at Knights Crossing (22:38.4) and 17th at the Valley Cup.
9. Lacey Keagy, Waynesboro – Keagy posted Top 30 finishes at both Knights Crossing (22:42.1) and the Valley Cup.
10. Reagan Allen, Waynesboro – Allen finished inside the Top 40 at Knights Crossing (23:21.6) and the Valley Cup.
11. Holly Kahn, Grace Christian – Kahn posted a time of 23:26.7 at Knights Crossing. She placed 28th at the Valley Cup.
12. Sydney Troxell, Wilson – Troxell posted a time of 23:33.2 at Knights Crossing.
A dozen local runners to watch in the boy’s 5K include.
1. Miles Jolin, Waynesboro – Running in the Red Division, Jolin had the fastest time among local runners at Knights Crossing (17:02.2). He posted the third fastest time at the Valley Cup.
2. Grayson Norris, Waynesboro – Norris was second fastest at the Valley Cup and had the second-fastest time among local runners at Knights Crossing (17:21.8).
3. Jed Derrick, Grace Christian – Derrick posted the third fastest time among local runners at Knights Crossing (17:35.8) and finished 17th at the Valley Cup.
4. Julian Galiano, Wilson – Galiano was the fourth fastest local runner at Knights Crossing 17:33) and was 37th fastest at the Valley Cupo.
5. Wyatt Metcalfe, Fort Defiance – One of a trio of stellar freshman on the Fort roster, Metcalfe was fifth among local runners at Knights Crossing (17:59.6) and 34th at the Valley Cup.
6. Canon Reid, Grace Christian – Reid finished just behind Metcalfe at Knights Crossing (18:01.8) and just ahead of Metcalfe at the Valley Cup.
7. Landon McNorton, Wilson – McNorton ran 18:18.2 at Knights Crossing and placed 41st at the Valley Cup.
8. Isaac Ranck, Grace Christian – Ranck ran 18:28.8 at Knights Crossing and finished with the 49th fastest time at the Valley Cup.
9. Leighton Magalis, Fort Defiance – Another member of Fort’s outstanding freshman class, Magalis posted a time of 18:31.7 at Knights Crossing and ran 38th at the Valley Cup.
10. Matt Dulaney, Fort Defiance – Yet another fast freshman at Fort, Dulaney finished just ahead of Magalis at Knights Crossing with a time of 18:31.6. He was 50th at the Valley Cup.
11. Easton Nice, Stuarts Draft – Nice struggled at the Knights’ Crossing race, but placed 14th at the Valley Cup, running the third-fastest time among the city-county competitors.
12. Zyler Kite, Wilson – Kite also had a tough outing at Knights Crossing but placed 23rd at the Valley Cup.
