Wilson Girls, Boys Take Big Wins Over Little Giants

Wilson 76, Waynesboro 45 (Girls)

– Wilson forged ahead by outscoring Waynesboro 23-11 in the second quarter and the Hornets continued to pull away in the second half for a 76-45 Shenandoah District girls’ basketball victory.

The Hornets and Little Giants played each other on consecutive nights and the results were much the same.

“It's been a long week, but the girls stuck together and prevailed,” said Wilson head coach Jackie Bryan.!” Our goal was to play our game hard each night and finish 4-0 for the week. We did just that. Our defense was great and was the reason we scored in the 70s all four games.

The Little Giants matched Wilson in the first quarter that ended in a 16-16 tie, but the Hornets surged ahead and took a double-digit lead at the half, 39-27.

Wilson outscored the hosts 37-18 in the second half to finish off the victory.

Estee Irving had a huge game, leading Wilson with 27 points. Kelsey Payne scored 16 points and CC Robinson added 12.

– Wilson defeated the Waynesboro Little Giants for the second time in two nights, taking a 76-44 victory in Shenandoah District boys’ basketball action.

Wilson put the game away early, outscoring the Little Giants 20-4 in the first quarter. Chase Snyder hit three 3-pointers and netted 11 points to spark the Hornets to a big, early lead.

The Hornets added 26 more points in the second quarter for a commanding 46-17 advantage. Eli Irving scored nine points in the second quarter.

Snyder hit five 3-pointers and led the Hornets with 23 points. Irving scored 15 points, followed by Mason McWhorter with 11 and Keyvon Jones with nine.

Timmy Dixon paced the Little Giants with 11 points and Ka’Marion Martin scored eight.
