Cougars Claim Big District Win; Fort Downs Rockbridge

Stuarts Draft 8, Buffalo Gap 2
STUARTS DRAFT – Stuarts Draft wiped out an early deficit Thursday to defeat Buffalo Gap 8-3 in Shenandoah District softball action.
Gap’s Bailey Tribble led off the game with a solo homer, but Draft scored in three straight innings to pull ahead. The Cougars scored three in the second inning to take the lead and added two in third and two more in fourth to lead 7-1
Madyson Miller led Draft’s 10-hit attack with a 3-for-4 effort at the plate. Karlee Layne and Krieg each had two his and Whetsel drove in two runs.
Layne went the distance in the circle for the Cougars, allowing two runs on seven hits. She struck out and walked two.
Tribble belted her second homer of the game in the fifth inning and finished 2-for-4.
Fort Defiance 9, Rockbridge 1
FORT DEFIANCE – Fort Defiance pounded out 14 hits to defeat Rockbridge 9-1 in non-district softball action.
Every starter in the lineup reached base for the Indians. Alexis Miller paced the hit parade with four hits.
Sara Turner and Brailyn Breeden combined in the circle to limit the Wildcats to just four hits.
